The Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), established in 1974 by the textile industry and the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is a leading textile research institute located in NCR Ghaziabad near Delhi. Recognized by CII as one of the top three innovative institutes in India in 2022 and one of the top five in 2023, NITRA is renowned for its applied scientific research and support services to the textile industry. Its core activities include research and development, technical consultancy, quality evaluation, manpower training, third-party inspection, and publication of technical books and papers.
In addition to its primary functions, NITRA, with support from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, operates two Centres of Excellence (CoE) for Protective and Automotive Textiles. These centers focus on product development, standard/specification preparation, testing, training, and organizing workshops and seminars. Serving approximately 2000 clients annually, including international companies, NITRA is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year, marking 50 years of significant contributions to the textile industry.
